Arizona On My Mind

Saguaro cacti, purple sage, a mesquite tree
and Zane Grey stories fill my head –
Fastback to childhood and Saturday flicks again –

tickets just a bob!
Eagles soar and wheel across this hot red land,
their distant screams reflect the throbbing

sounds of deerskin drum and native flute, which

echo, spirit-like, hollow in the desert air,

annoy the sleepy rattlesnake, dormant fast

within their safe cool creek-bed lair.
This is Arizona – Been there at last!
