Their difference is that they may have design differences, adaptations, unique woods, limited quantities on one-of-a-kind flutes, slight cosmetic imperfections, minor shaping inconsistencies, which do not detract from the flute's purpose in any way. Each Preservation Collection flute remains a high-quality, American handcrafted, woodwind instrument. As with all of our flutes, we stand by our musical instrument quality reputation, and sound quality is always guaranteed. This Preservation Collection flute does not include our third hole, leather cover. This does not affect the flutes functionality, sound quality, or musicality in anyway.
Our Sparrow Hawk flute in the key of "A" minor (440 Hz) is one of our most popular flutes. This is our 2024 body design handcrafted from a single piece of sustainable and domestic Aromatic Cedar wood. Aromatic Cedar has a range of colors from ginger-orange to burgundy-red, it can also showcase sapwood which is the yellow wood color also present in Aromatic Cedar.
ABOUT TURQUOISE ACCENT
Turquoise Accent is the technique we use (which is also used throughout woodworking) to level-out the surface of the Aromatic Cedar. Aromatic Cedar is known for having many 'knots' which give visual character and striking features to the appearance of the wood but are not even to the surface.
We are extremely picky about the Aromatic Cedar that we approve during our crafting process, and only choose planks that will provide the excellent quality of sound that meets our standards. This means that Turquoise Accent on any flute is purely cosmetic, and in no way impacts the instrument's sound quality.
Over the years we have found that once folks know that it is just a decorative technique to create and even surface on the body of the flute, they fall in love with the look of it because it highlights the natural attributes of this highly enviromentally-sustainable wood, Aromatic Cedar.
The key of 'A' is easy to play and ideal for any first time flute player learning to play. It has a soothing mid-tone musical voice, its 19-inch (48 cm) length makes it great for most hand sizes. This flute is tuned in the key of "A" minor but can also be played in the relative major diatonic scale in the key of "C".
