On occasion our wood supplier friends offer a limited supply of unique domestic species. In this case we are excited to present a limited number of madrone burl flutes. The burl fades into the straight grained heartwood, creating beautiful pattern transitions.
Madrone and madrone burl are a unique tonal wood that create clean clear high notes and have a smooth voice on the lower register. The burl has elaborate individual grain patterns and the combination of the natural beauty and exceptional voice, prompted the name “Madrone Magic”.
The contrast of the black walnut fetish compliments the madrone burl and adds to create a beautiful sculpture of functional art. To highlight the intricate patterns of the burl we do not offer this flute with any stone inlays.
Madrone trees are native to the western coastal areas of North America, from British Columbia to California. The hardwood combination of madrone and walnut create durable flutes, making them ideal for outdoor use such as camping and hiking.
This flute is a good accompaniment instrument for the Contra Bass "F#" flute and the Kestrel Flute in the key of "F#". It is deeper in tone than the Redtail Hawk Flute in key of "G".
The flute is tuned in the key of "F#" minor and can also be played in the relative major diatonic scale in the key of "A".
This is a 6-hole flute, we cover the 3rd hole from the top of the flute (known as the 6th hole) with a leather tie, giving the option to use it as a 6-hole or a 5-hole flute.
This flute is 25 inches (64 cm) long.
