The Woodpecker plays a major role in the legend of the Native Flute in the western United States. This flute has been the mascot for High Spirits Flutes since the very beginning when we originally first started making flutes in 1990; the Woodpecker was the first Bird Head Flute we created.

Tuned to the key of "F♯" minor; it can also be played in the relative major diatonic scale in the key of "A".

The flute's body is handcrafted from Ebonized Walnut and inlaid with Turquoise cabochons. Ebonized Walnut flutes are crafted from Walnut that is then ebonized through a multi-step process that involves being dipped multiple times to create the rich black wood tone, and then sealed with multiple coats of non-toxic oil. This labor-intensive process creates the high-gloss look and finish of the flute, and are the foundation of the enhanced tonal quality of the flute's voice, which is responsive, defined, and highly resonant.

All Signature Woodpecker Flutes Automatically Comes With A Free Black Branch Single Flute Stand.

The flute is approximately 28-inches (71 cm) long. As such, it is not ideal for those with very small hands or those with limited hand movement.

Our Signature Woodpecker Flute is hand-shaped and painted, features decorative Turquoise cabochons that are hand-finished into the flute's body, enhancing the decorative beauty of the musical instrument and creating handcrafted piece of functional work of art.

Our Signature flutes utilize a unique airflow system for superior responsiveness, exceptional amplification, and a concert quality sound, which also makes them an ideal choice for a wide range of musical styles.

Ebonizing is a process used in the early 1900s. Even though the ebony wood was already rare and costly, ebony furniture was popular at that time. To compensate for that, wood workers developed a dyeing process called ebonizing
Unlike a stain, the dyeing process penetrates the wood fiber deeply. Walnut is ideal for this process because it has a dark brown grain that streaks through the black dye giving it a similar look to ebony. We have found that this process can enhance the sound quality of the flute.

Our Signature Series flutes combine artistry and functionality, as beautiful objects and musical instruments. These flutes have a unique design that provides exceptional responsiveness, player-control, and amplification through superior airflow, making them ideal for concert performances, experienced players, and professional musicians, and any genre of music.

For over 30-years, High Spirits Flutes has been handcrafting flutes from single piece of wood. We have become adept at the process of choosing planks with natural beauty and turning them into incredible sounding flutes. When you choose one of our flutes we guarantee its high-quality sound, its flawless craftmanship, and one-of-a-kind characteristic of the unique piece of wood that it's crafted from.
