Our limited edition Four Directions flute in the key of 'G' minor was created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of High Spirits Flutes. Odell and our team designed the flute in honor of this special milestone, in celebration of handcrafted, made in the USA, Native American Style Flutes for the past 30-years.
The flute's fetish symbolizes the Four Directions and the embedded stone cabochons each represent a color of the Four Directions. These embody "the Four Directions, as well as Father Sky, Mother Earth, and Spirit Tree—all of which symbolize dimensions of health and the cycles of life."
It is handcrafted from Aromatic Cedar, which is a softwood that gives the flute a warm, resonant, and full, musical voice. The key of 'G' minor is versatile and can be adapted to play many musical styles, and can be played by wide variety of abilities including beginners.
Mid-tone flutes offer a deeper pitch that is accessible to new players because of its smaller length and diameter when compared to bass tone flutes. It is tuned to 440 Hz so it is a part of our Traditional Flutes.
The Four Directions flute is tuned to the key of 'G' minor but it can also be played in the relative Major Diatonic scale, in the key of 'A#' / 'Bb.'
This is a six-hole flute, though we include a removable leather cover over the third hole from the top (known as the sixth hole) allowing it to be played as a five-hole flute, which is easier to learn to play.
This flute is 21 inches (53.34 cm) in length.
