There is very little pictorial record of Native Americans playing the flute. The personal expression of this image beautifully conveys the expression, “Playing from the Heart”.
This photo was taken in 1908 by photographer Karl Everton Moon (1879-1948). He was born in Wilmington, Ohio and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he found many of his subjects for his photos, paintings and illustrations. In 1907 he moved into the Grand Canyon were he photographed many of his Pueblo culture portraits.
