The original inspiration for this flute design was from the Sandhill Cranes that migrate by their thousands to Southern Arizona. Odell and Zach collaborated together and designed this Signature Flute to honor these winged friends that return to bless us with their presence each year.
The dramatic color combination of the Sandhill Cranes gave us the idea of using the contrasting wood species of Birch and Walnut. The Walnut sections complement the Birch flute body and provide a wonderful palette for the Migration design.
This Signature Flute has wonderfully clear high notes and warm full low notes. Very little breath is needed to play the flute allowing easy control over the notes and playing techniques. It has strong amplitude and is very responsive giving the player an intimate feel for the notes being played. We have committed to making only one hundred of this Migration Signature Flute design in the key of "A".
The flute is tuned in the key of "A" minor and can also be played in the relative major diatonic scale in the key of "C". It is finely crafted and hand polished to a fine finish with several layers of non-toxic oils.
The flute is accurately tuned so it can easily be accompanied by other instruments.
During the Arizona winter season the Sandhill Cranes come South to enjoy the temperate climate here. After Zach's enthusiastic outing to visit the Cranes then Odell followed suit. The vision of witnessing several hundred large birds flying and grazing was so awe inspiring that they were energized to put their design skills together to create the Migration Signature Flute.
The inlaid turquoise cabochons reflect the Native American cultural view that turquoise, like all things in nature, has life. It possesses the power of positive healing energy, an aid in mental functions, communications and expression as well as providing protection and comfort.
This flute is 20 inches (51 cm) long.
