We created this Classic key of "A" minor flute (440 Hz) with a small batch of Tanoak wood we bought. Like with all our flute it's handcrafted with a unibody construction, which means it's made from a single piece of wood.
Tanoak (Notholithocarpus densiflorus) is a domestic hardwood that offers the flute a crisp, clear, musical voice that excels on high notes, with clarity throughout the flute's scale. Tanoak Classic features an Ebonized Walnut fetish with Dark Brown leather for the fetish-tie and the third hole cover.
The key of 'A' is ideal for any first time player because of its size length and diameter; it is 19-inch (48 cm) long with a diameter that's less than 1-inch.
These dimensions are a sweet-spot for new players because they allow for less breath-control (which correlates with a flute's diameter) and easy to successfully master fingering techniques because of the flute's moderate length.
It is tuned in the key of "A" minor but can also technically be played in the relative major diatonic scale, in the key of "C".
Our Leather Hole Covers - all our flutes have six fingering holes but each flute automatically includes a leather hole cover strap (exception: Signature Flutes) that can be used to close off the third hole from the top. Using the leather strap to cover the third hole from the top (and resting your finger on top of it) is a great tool for beginners because it simplifies flute-finger techinque for beginners. The leather hole cover strap is just a tool, and it's completely optional for use. Without it our flutes still remain easy to play.
