At High Spirits Flutes, we are excited to introduce the first video in a new series, 5 Minute Flute Lessons with Jan Michael Looking Wolf. Jan is an award-winning recording artist, Kalapuya Tribal Elder, and longtime friend of High Spirits Flutes. In this series, he shares the first steps of playing the Native American-style flute, beginning with connecting to your instrument, producing a clear tone, and starting the flute-playing process. In the opening lesson, Jan plays our High Spirits Signature White Tail high “B” Aromatic Cedar flute, a beautiful instrument with a warm and resonant voice. These lessons are designed for all levels, from beginners just starting out to experienced players refreshing their fundamentals.

We also want to highlight Jan’s upcoming live online workshop taking place on Saturday, October 18 at 11 a.m. Pacific Time. This interactive Zoom workshop will give players the opportunity to elevate their playing, broaden techniques, improve control, and learn practical steps for creating and enhancing melodies. Jan will also cover embellishments and other techniques that can immediately expand your musical expression. With more than 25,000 students taught over his career, Jan brings decades of teaching experience as both a performer and university instructor. The workshop will run for at least 120 minutes and includes Q&A sessions, interactive experiences, and a video recording provided afterward for continued practice.

If you're in the Tucson Arizona area on April 4 and 5 the 2025 Voyager RV Resort will be holding its annual Southwest Native American Style Flute Festival. This local, homegrown native flute event was established by the Voyager Flute Circle and has become a 'rite of spring' for that Tucson flute playing community.

The festival is small and friendly so it's easy and fun to drop-by and shop the flute and instrument makers there, who are excited to share their craftmanship with you! There will also be musical performances, workshops, food, and a evening concert.

The Voyager Flute Festival is free and open to the public, and takes place from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM both days.  Voyager RV Resort is located at:  8701 S. Kolb Rd. in Tucson.
