Our Two Hawks double flute in the key of "A" minor is handcrafted in the mountains of southern Arizona from domestic Spanish Cedar wood. Spanish Cedar is a softwood, which gives woodwind instruments a musical voice that is melodic, resonant, and tonally warm. It is also features decorative black Onyx stone inlay cabochons.
With our double flutes you play the melody on one side and the other side provides the drone in the root note of the flute and it magically sounds like two people are playing at the same time!
Our double flutes are played the same as our single flutes, they just require more breath / air pressure. And with all our flutes the larger the diameter of the flute the more breath they require. The Two Hawks double flute is the smallest of our mid-tone double flutes, making it the most accessible while not being a high-tone octave.
The Two Hawks 'A' Spanish Cedar Flute features black leather ties that secure the flute's ebonized Walnut wood fetish to the body of the flute, and a leather hole cover.
This is a six hole flute, which includes a leather hole cover that can optionally be used to cover the third hole from the top, as seen in the product's images. Covering the third hole from the top makes the flute easier to learn to play. The leather hole cover can easily be untied and removed, giving the flute player the option of playing the instrument as either a five hole flute or a six hole flute.
