In the world of music there has been a revival in tuning instruments to lower frequencies of sound vibration, and our EarthTone 432 Hz Flute Collection embraces that movement.
Until recently musical instruments were generally tuned so that the “A” note (of the middle octave on a piano) was tuned to 440 Hertz (Hz) cycles per second, also known as Concert Pitch.
Concert Pitch was established as the musical standard at the beginning of the 20th century but prior to that instruments were tuned to 432 Hz cycles per second.
To honor this historical sound frequency, we created our EarthTone Flutes Series that utilizes the 432 Hz tuning frequency for the “A” note, with all the other musical notes aligned accordingly. When played alongside flutes tuned to the frequency of 440 Hz the tonal difference of the 432 Hz frequency is very subtle.
Slight changes to the tuning frequency of a musical instrument can alter the quality of feeling of the music being created. This tonal difference in frequency is similar to the subtleties of inflection with the human voice, which can project nuanced variation in feeling or expression.
Though the difference frequency is subtle, we highly recommend that instruments tuned to 432 Hz are paired with other instruments tuned to the same frequency, and not with those tuned to 440 Hz.
In creating our EarthTone 432 Hz Flute collection we discovered a device called the Cymascope which is a scientific instrument that can give a visual image of sound and vibration. So we incorporated a design representation of the Cymascope's visual image for the 432 Hz sound frequency and engrave it on each flute.
EarthTone Flutes also have Rainbow Moonstone cabochon inlays, and a fetish designed to represent a circle of life.
Because of their unique 432 Hz frequency, they should only be played with other instruments tuned to the 432 Hz frequency for harmonic balance.
