The Hopi use the term Kachina Clouds to describe the ever changing cloud patterns that bring the life giving rains. During the summer monsoon, we are blessed with this ever changing sky canvas.
Kachinas are considered supernatural beings who visit the villages to help the Hopis with everyday activities and act as a link between gods and mortals. They are represented in the making of the famous Kachina Dolls. The Kachina Spirits are also impersonated by men who dress up in costumes and masks to perform ceremonial dances throughout the year.
As one observer has written: the central theme of the Kachina [religion] is the presence of life in all objects that fill the universe. Everything has an essence or a life force, and humans must interact with these or fail to survive.
